Gaming is far more than just a form of entertainment. There’s good news in store for the parents of teenagers who spend hours each day on interactive, role-playing and single player games across all consoles and on the computer: gaming is an effective vehicle for learning, even when the games are not specifically developed to be educational in nature.

For example, games that are played online with other players are a great tool for developing social skills. Cooperative games also assist with teaching values such as tolerance, management skills and the importance of teamwork.

Computer games are also helpful in refining visual processing skills, logical reasoning and problem solving. Many games are high-paced and reward fast response times, which in turn makes it easier to learn skills through hands-on activities that are still entertaining.

In schools, gaming can be used to help children with learning difficulties remain engaged and focused in a fun way. Educational-themed games and games that vary in difficulty, competitiveness and cooperation can be selected to enhance the effect of learning through doing. Computer games can even be used as a way to teach languages to foreign students.

There are even more ways that gaming can enhance learning and other environments. Check out the informative infographic below to find out more about the benefits of gaming for learning. Are you ready?
