Phil Muscott

Philip hails from Chelmsford, Essex in the United Kingdom and started his career in the financial services industry. He made the switch to education in 2004, and gained a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Roehampton, London. Philip’s main work has revolved around curriculum design utilising Understanding by Design (UbD) and integrating the Habits of Mind (HoM). His academic research has focused on the relationship between HoM application, and achievement in authentic performance task assessments.


Phil Muscott is head of school in Cambodia. He has been working with Understanding by Design and Habits of Mind for a number of years. He became so intrigued with the work that he designed a research study to see how effective this work has been for students. He is an enthusiastic educator, as you will see from his interview. And his students are enthusiastic about their work, as you will see in their interview. You will also find the research study attached here as well as two artifacts to show how students are reflecting throughout the learning process.
